Woodford Garden Village school

1. What we've done so far
When we granted planning permission for the redevelopment of the former BAE systems site at Woodford, the planning permission included a single form entry primary school. The school will be built by the developer and once built, the school site and building will be passed to us.
Leading up to the delivery of the new school, expected in June 2022, it's our responsibility to decide who should manage it.
We had 2 options available to us for the management and governance of the new school.
The options were:
- Queensgate Primary School, an existing community school, transfers to the new site and is expanded
- the site is offered, through a competitive process, as a free school/academy
We wanted to be transparent about how we made the decision about who will run the school and we engaged with residents, schools and other key partners before we reached a decision.
A pre-proposal consultation was held between 1 July 2021 to 29 July 2021 during which a great number of views were expressed. Because of the volume and strength of views expressed we decided we could no longer consider the relocation of Queensgate Primary School as an option. As such we decided to begin a Free School Presumption process.
A Free School Presumption process is a competitive process which invites interested multi-academy trusts to bid to become the operator of the new school. This process opened on 24 September 2021.
