We all know that moving more has many benefits that go beyond the physical. But it’s not always as simple as joining the gym to get more active. Real change for happier, healthier lifestyles can take a lot of factors pulling in the right direction.
Here in Stockport, we want to make sure people, communities, and organisations, from every sector and place across the area are Moving Together.
Whilst technology has improved our quality of life in many ways, it provides us with many non-active ways to carry out our daily routines. Meaning, we are less active, walk less, sit down more, and expend less energy.
Due to this, public levels of fitness have fallen, and it is now impacting negatively on our health. 1 in 3 adults and half of our children in Stockport are not moving enough to maintain their long-term health.
For the first time in our evolution, it is necessary to find ways of consciously building physical activity into our daily routines to remain healthy.
We're working with communities and partners to help the people of Stockport move in a way that suits them. We aim to work together to make it easier to be more active, more often. We want to build activity into our everyday lives and make it part of how we all live, work and play.
