Education

We want all educational settings to provide better and more inclusive support to autistic children and young people.

What we're going to do

  • roll out individualised one-page profiles and support plans for autistic children and young people in education
  • deliver autism training to all educational settings
  • pilot the ‘Autism in Schools’ project alongside Parents and Carers Together Stockport (PACTS) and explore ways to roll out across all settings. The project will include:
    • whole school staff training
    • capturing student voice
    • whole school assemblies
    • training for parents and carers
    • creating a sensory space
    • support from either a specialist Education Psychologist or a Mental Health worker
    • review the Autism Team and explore ways to support children, young people, and their families both pre-diagnosis and post-diagnosis
    • we will capture the views of parents and carers of autistic children who attend specialist settings, are home educated or out of education, and ensure they have equal access to all information and communication

What will good look like?

  • feedback from our autistic students and parents and carers that school staff are more aware of their individual needs
  • autistic students reporting that they feel supported
  • data showing that fewer autistic students are being excluded
  • data showing that attendance has increased among autistic students
