What is the Stockport Local Plan?

2. New homes

The provision of new homes is vital to the future of Stockport as a town that people are able to afford to live and want to work in.

Housing covers a wide range of topics from the overall delivery of housing, to the provision of affordable housing and to specialist housing sectors for a variety of different groups.

In delivering new housing the council needs to consider the other needs of those who will be living in them and of those who already live in Stockport, including the provision and protection of open space. Where we deliver those houses, the type of housing that is provided and the open spaces we provide as part of their development is as important as the numbers that are delivered.

Such provision, alongside other services and land uses, is vital to delivering sustainable development across the borough.
