What is Council Tax Support

If you're a low income household you may be entitled to a reduction in the amount of Council Tax you pay.

This is called Council Tax Support which is based on:

  • Your family circumstances
  • The money you have coming in
  • Any benefits you get
  • Any savings you have
  • The amount of your Council Tax bill

Council Tax Support is not only for people out of work. Many people in work miss out every year so don’t be one of them.

If you're in receipt of Universal Credit you still need to submit a claim form for Council Tax Support. You can apply online using the Council Tax Support claim form.

You can find out how much Council Tax Support you may be entitled to by using the online calculator on BetterOff Stockport.
