What happens if a pupil does not attend school

School Attendance Order

If parents/carers fail to provide a suitable education for their child, the council will identify a school for them and follow a legal process leading to the service of a School Attendance Order.

A School Attendance Order requires the parents/carers to enrol the child at the school named in the order.

If the parents/carers fail to comply, they commit an offence and will face prosecution.
