Notice to Improve
A Notice to Improve is a final opportunity to improve attendance before a fine is issued to the parents/carers.
In Stockport, the use of Notices to Improve is governed by a local Code of Conduct.
They're not used in every case. For example, a Notice to Improve will not be issued if:
- it's felt that the child would benefit more from an attendance contract
- the absences are caused by unauthorised leave of absence or term time holidays
The Notice to Improve advises the parent/carer that if there are any absences in the next 15 school days, they'll receive an Education Penalty Notice fine.
The idea is to concentrate the minds of the family over a short period of time to improve attendance.
Notices to Improve also provide parents/carers with information about the support available to help improve their child's attendance, and how they can access it.
