Middlewood Way

Middlewood Way is a former railway linking Marple with Macclesfield and offers a variety of recreational opportunities:

  • walking
  • cycling
  • horse riding
  • bird watching
  • picnicking

For horse riders the Way offers a traffic-free ride from Marple to Bollington - along the specially constructed bridleway.

The Way is also open to cyclists and provides the ideal opportunity for a quiet and enjoyable family outing. Picnic sites are situated at various points along the trail and cycle hire is available from Grimshaw Lane, Bollington.

The Middlewood Way offers walkers an 11 mile route from Marple to Macclesfield. It also offers a number of alternative routes and circular walks via Macclesfield Canal and Ladybrook Valley.
