We Can’t Celebrate: The War Isn’t Over Yet
Thursday 8 May to Sunday 8 June 2025
Presented by Ray Withnall.
As Great Britain celebrated the end of the war in Europe on VE Day 8 May 1945, there were many families who felt they could not join the festivities. They had relatives in the Far East fighting in the continuing war against the Japanese.
This exhibition features some of those families and highlights their concern for their loved ones as the military action continued for a further distressing one hundred days. The Japanese surrendered on VJ Day 15 August 1945, and at last World War Two finally ended.
