Artful Remembrance

12 September to 29 October 2026

Exhibition - Artful Remembrance

'Memories of a Moorland Concerto' by Maggie Robinson

Presented by Manchester Academy of Fine Arts

This exhibition explores how visual art becomes a profound means of commemorating lives, events, places, and personal histories, without relying on verbal language. As Galileo Galilei observed, “The nature of the human mind is such that unless it is stimulated by images of things acting upon it from without, all remembrance of them passes easily away.” This exhibition embraces that truth, using visual experience as a catalyst for memory.

Artful Remembrance continues the organisation’s commitment to engaging visitors and artists in thoughtful, reflective encounters with art. Manchester Academy of Fine Arts encourages contemplation, inviting audiences to consider what artworks mean, how they communicate, and how visual art can evoke remembrance in ways that words cannot.
