15 Lower Hillgate

15 Lower Hillgate is an early 19th century building. It has three storeys and a basement.

During the 20th century, the building’s owners replaced the original shopfront with a mock Tudor frontage. The aim of this project was to restore the building’s original style using historic photographs as guidance.

Now restored to its former glory, 15 Lower Hillgate is a mixed-use space. There are apartments on the top floors, plus a ground floor commercial unit.

The restoration work involved:

  • reinstating the shopfront and signage
  • refurbishing the upper floors
  • repairing timber details
  • repointing
  • improving the brickwork
