3. How to apply for a place

If you have received a letter, take this to your preferred nursery, childminder or pre-school to find out if they have a space for your child.

If you haven’t received a letter but think you may be eligible, you can contact your local children’s centre or email the early years team.

There are many child care settings in Stockport that can offer funded places, including pre-schools, private day nurseries, childminders, local authority nursery classes and independent nursery schools.

When you visit your preferred provider you can agree how you will use your free hours and arrange a start date.

  • There should be no registration fee charged for your free hours, if the setting is able to offer them to you
  • There should be no conditions of access you have to agree to in order to take-up the free hours - for example, you must not be forced to pay for additional hours in order to have your free entitlement
  • There should be no fees charged for free hours - providers should not charge “top up” fees (the difference between what providers would normally charge and the funding they receive from the local authority) in relation to any free hours
