How to transfer

  • we'll arrange a home visit to discuss and answer any questions you may have
  • we'll generally advise you to tell your fostering agency in writing that you intend to transfer to Stockport as we may contact them for a reference
  • you can't foster for more than one agency so we'll need to agree at what point you give your agency 28 days notice
  • if you have a foster child in placement, we'll meet your agency to check how your transfer would affect the child
  • a new Form F assessment and supporting documentation will be completed by a social worker from our fostering team.
  • Your Form F will then be presented to a fostering panel where your current approval will end and you'll become approved by us
  • social workers of children and young people in placement with you will be fully informed that the transfer has been completed

The transfer arrangements are documented in more detail in the Fostering Network Transfer Protocol which have been set out by the Fostering Network.

If you've decided to transfer to us, get in touch by emailing fosteringstockport@stockport.gov.uk or calling 0161 474 3400. We'll be able to guide you through the process.
