Traineeships and work experience

1. Traineeships

Traineeships are available for young people aged 16 to 19. They're also for people with learning difficulties and disabilities up to the age of 25. They are targeted at young people focussed on the prospect of employment. They have little work experience and don't possess a level 3 qualification.

There are three core elements:

  • a high quality work placement
  • a focussed period of work preparation training such as CV writing skills and interview preparation
  • and English and mathematics.

They last for a maximum of six months. They aim to secure the young person's progression to an apprenticeship or sustainable job as quickly as possible.
