Stockport Council is committed to promoting the importance of renewable energy and has embraced the ever improving technology.
Solar photovoltaic (PV) in Stockport
The Council's corporate estate has 28 solar PV systems installed (9 of which are over 30kw). 1,931 solar PV installations on domestic properties managed by Stockport Homes have also been completed.
Hydro electricity in Stockport
Stockport Council is supporting the development of two community hydro schemes on council owned land with 130kW capacity and a third scheme at feasibility stage with a further 85kW. The Community hydro schemes, at Otterspool and Stringer Weirs, will also generate around £400,000 for further community projects in the borough over the 40 year lease period.
Biomass heating in Stockport
Biomass energy involves burning biological material, such as wood chip, to provide renewable heat. A 999kw biomass boiler has been installed at Lancashire Hill with 4 more biomass boilers planned to be installed in 2012.
