Taxi driver's dress code
All our drivers are expected to comply with the dress code. It is not a uniform.
It sets a standard that provides a positive image of licensed hackney carriage and private hire drivers in Stockport, and promotes public and driver safety.
Acceptable clothing
- all clothing must be in good condition, free from holes, rips or other damage
- drivers must keep good standards of personal hygiene
- as a minimum standard:
- men should wear trousers and a shirt, t-shirt or polo shirt which has a full body and short or long sleeves. Knee length shorts may also be worn. Exceptions related to faith or disability are also allowed
- women should wear trousers, a knee length skirt or dress. They should wear a shirt, blouse, t-shirt or polo shirt with a full body and short or long sleeves. Knee length shorts may also be worn. Exceptions related to faith or disability are also allowed
- footwear should fit securely around the toe and heel
Unacceptable clothing
- clothing that is not kept in a clean and good condition
- clothing that displays words or graphics of an offensive or suggestive nature
- sportswear. For example, football or rugby kits, including team shirts or beachwear. Tracksuits are allowed
- sandals with no heel straps, flip flops or any other footwear that is not secure around the heel
- clothing that may obscure the driver’s vision or their identity. For example, a hood
Uniforms
We recognise the positive image that uniforms can create but this dress code does not require a licensed driver to wear a distinct uniform.
We acknowledge that many private hire and hackney carriage companies do require licensed drivers to wear appropriate corporate branded uniform. This is a practice that we would encourage licensed drivers to support.
