Overview

Could you open your home to a young person and change a young person’s life?

We're looking for supported lodgings providers in Stockport and surrounding areas. If you have a spare room and want to make a difference, you could support.

Our team provides full training and support every step of the way. You'll also receive training, support and financial assistance, making it a rewarding experience for those willing to help young people to develop skills and confidence for independent living.

The aim of supported lodgings

For young people aged between 16 to 21 years, the supported lodgings scheme is a stepping stone to independence.

The transition to adulthood is hard, but even harder for the 13,000 young people who leave care each year, and for asylum-seeking children. Supported lodgings can be a helpful way to navigate this transition.

With your help, young people are supported to learn skills that many of us take for granted, such as:

  • budgeting
  • cooking
  • cleaning
  • washing
  • staying safe and healthy

About the young people

The young people that need support include those who are:

  • aged between 16 and 17, and are at risk
  • care leavers aged between 18 and 21
  • aged 16 or over, and are seeking asylum

Feedback from a supported lodgings provider

The experience is very rewarding. It gives you a sense of purpose knowing that you are helping young people who may not be given a chance in other circumstances... helping them towards a secure future with a sense of self-worth, self-esteem and a newfound trust in people that their past is behind them.

They can have a fresh start in life and feel like a productive member of society.
