The supported lodgings scheme finds accommodation for young people who are at risk of becoming homeless for a variety of reasons.
The supported lodgings scheme is a stepping stone to independence. Young people on the scheme are supported to learn skills that we take for granted, such as:
- staying safe and healthy
This will help them to become independent and eventually manage in their own homes.
We're looking for people aged over 25, who are resilient, patient and tolerant. You must be able to provide warm, secure and friendly accommodation for:
- young people aged between 16 and 17 who are at risk
- care leavers aged between 18 and 21
- young people aged 16 and over who are seeking asylum
We'll provide regular support to the providers. Each young person will receive support from a social worker or a support worker during their stay with you.

What our providers have to say about the supported lodgings scheme:
“The experience is very rewarding. It gives you a sense of purpose knowing that you are helping young people who may not be given a chance in other circumstances. Helping them towards a secure future with a sense of self-worth, self-esteem and a new found trust in people that their past is behind them. They can have a fresh start in life and feel like productive member of society."
"I think being able to help a young person find their feet on the ladder of adulthood whilst being supported by professionals from the scheme and various agencies is really rewarding."
"I’ve been on the scheme for a while now and whereas at times it has been challenging, it has always been rewarding. Supporting a young person to gain independent skills and watching them develop is a good feeling."
"We didn’t want the responsibility of fostering, so when we heard about the scheme, we decided to give it a go. We've supported a number of young people and we're still in contact with some. They have gone onto live independently and it’s nice to know we had a part in that."
