Supported Housing Improvement Programme (SHIP)
The Supported Housing Improvement Programme is a government funded initiative aiming to help local councils have more oversight of supported accommodation within their area.
The SHIP team started in 2023 in Stockport, with the primary focus in phase 1 of the programme to drive up standards of supported accommodation in Stockport. This involved working closely with housing providers to carry out necessary repairs and embed good practice within properties.
We're now in phase 2 of the programme, where the scope of our work will centre on preparing for the Supported Housing Licensing regime introduced through the Supported Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Act 2023.
We'll be working closely with both housing and support providers to ensure appropriate oversight arrangements are in place and to support any associated changes. This includes reviewing our current supported accommodation provision across the borough. Alongside this, we'll continue to develop our gateway approach to support organisations seeking to provide supported accommodation in Stockport.
