Formal Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD) and Guidance (SPG)

1. Overview

Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD) provide detailed guidance on specific sites and topic areas to supplement the formal policies of the statutory development plan.

They are a replacement for Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) which, under the new planning system which came into force from September 2004, are no longer being produced.

There are still, however, several SPGs which are still relevant and up-to-date. These will be saved until such a time as this is no longer the case and it is considered necessary to replace them with new SPD.
