Commemorating Stockport's Victoria Cross heroes

As part of the national WW1 centenary commemorations, the Department for Communities and Local Government have commissioned commemorative paving stones to be laid in the birth towns of soldiers who were awarded the Victoria Cross (VC) in 1918.

Stockport has two recipients: Wilfred Wood and James Kirk.

The commemorative paving stones will be laid at the war memorials which are local to where each recipient was born or grew up and will be unveiled at services marking exactly 100 years since they received the award.
