Stockport Portas Pilot Project

1. Overview

In December 2011 the Government published 'the Portas review' in the light of concern over Britain’s high streets and town centres.

The review made recommendations aimed at identifying what government, local authorities, businesses and communities could do together to promote the development of new models of prosperous and diverse high streets.

One of the government’s responses to the review was to invite bids from centres around the UK to become a high street ‘Portas Pilot. To ‘test proof of concept’ and to ‘put in place a town team’.
