Stockport Libraries Open Libraries customer agreement and induction

When you sign up for Open+, you will need to sign a document to confirm that you understand the following information.

Customer agreement

The Council has a duty to ensure that its libraries are used in a responsible and safe way. This agreement clearly defines the expected behaviour of customers wishing to access libraries during unstaffed hours.

When using libraries during unstaffed times you:

  • must use your own library card to enter the library
  • should not open the door to allow anyone into the library
  • should not allow anyone to follow you into the library

By entering the library in unstaffed mode, you agree to:

  • not facilitate others using the library who have not registered their entry via the keypad outside
  • take notice of the evacuation procedure by watching our customer video or reading the information near the freephone
  • take notice of emergency contact numbers displayed near the customer freephone
  • exit via the appropriate method in accordance with the health and safety video
  • report anything of concern to SMBC security service using the free phone on 5555 or police/emergency services. You can also email us at libraries@stockport.gov.uk
  • not access the counter area, use or tamper with any equipment or attempt to enter any restricted areas

Open plus access is not available to customers under 18, unless arranged by library staff. Customers under 18 will need to enter with a registered adult and should not be left in the building without a responsible adult.

Customers enter at your own risk. If you have concerns about using the library when it is unstaffed, please do not enter.

If you visit another Open+ library in Stockport, you will need to familiarise yourself with the Building Plan and Freephone location for that library. Please watch the video on the library web pages.

If entering as a family or group, an adult will use the access panel and the group will enter together. The adult takes responsibility for the group while using the library.

The library is monitored via CCTV for your safety. Read our privacy notice.

In some libraries just the entrance will be illuminated. As you enter, lights which are on sensors will light up as they pick up movement. If you do not move for any length of time the lights will go off, but movement quickly restores them. Lighting levels will be reduced near closing time.
