Stockport local plan September 2026 (Regulation 19) consultation

The local plan has now reached the Regulation 19 consultation stage; the final opportunity to comment before the plan is submitted for examination by an independent Planning Inspector.

Stockport Local Plan documents

Before you start, read the Local Plan documents to inform your comments.

At this stage, we're asking for comments on whether the plan is legally compliant and sound. That means considering whether it has been prepared correctly, is supported by evidence, can be delivered effectively and is consistent with national planning policy.

Comments will be shared with an independent Planning Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government who will hold an Examination in Public about the local plan.

The Planning Inspector will determine whether we have followed the correct processes and whether the local plan meets the 'tests of soundness'.

Use this form to make formal comments about whether you support or object to the published local plan.

The consultation is open from 23 September to 8 November 2026.

Before you start

You should read the Stockport Local Plan documents first.

On the form, you'll be asked to:

  • tell us whether you support the Local Plan, object to it, or support some parts while objecting to others
  • identify the part(s) of the Local Plan your representation relates to; use numbers or titles from the plan to make it as clear as possible
  • explain why you support or object to those parts
  • if you object, explain whether your objection relates to legal compliance, soundness, or another issue, and why
  • tell us what changes, if any, you think are needed
  • tell us whether you would like to attend and speak at the examination hearings if invited by the Planning Inspector

You cannot complete the form anonymously, you must either provide your email or your address, as we or the Planning Inspector may need to contact you about your response You'll also need to provide, if applicable, details of the person or organisation you are representing. However, we recommend you do not include any personal personal information in your responses as the comments could be made public as part of the Examination.

If your response is more than 4,000 characters you can upload it as a separate Word or PDF document at the end of the form as well as any further evidence you have referenced in your response. Make sure your document uses text rather than images. You can upload PDF and DOCX files with a maximum file size of 20MB.

You have 30 minutes to answer each question and there is no save function. We recommend, if you do have a longer response, you prepare it and any supporting evidence before you start the form.

The Stockport Local Plan has been published under Regulation 19 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012. The consultation is taking place in accordance with Regulation 20.

You can find more information about how local plans are prepared on Planning Aid England.

Whilst representations may also be submitted by email or post, we would strongly encourage everyone to use the online consultation form wherever possible. Where comments are submitted by other means, we encourage you to follow the same format and provide the same information requested by the online form so that your comments can be forwarded to the Inspector in the most useful and consistent manner.
