Consultation

You must display a poster in your window advising the public that you've applied for a licence and also post this to your neighbouring businesses. You can find the information about what you need to display in the pavement licence policy for outdoor seating (PDF 125Kb).

You must read the policy before you apply for a licence.

Apply for a pavement licence for outdoor seating

You can use our online form to apply for a pavement licence.

Before you start

You'll need to provide:

  • your current licence number if you're renewing or transferring your licence
  • to tell us what you'll use the licence for
  • how much space on the pavement you'll need
  • to tell us about the number of tables and seats you'll be using
  • the type and size of any other furniture you'll be using
  • the start and end time of when your licence will operate
  • the names and contact details of neighbouring businesses
  • the names and contact details of the people who own the business (if you do not own the business)

You'll also need to upload:

  • a location plan – the plan should clearly outline the premises and the proposed outdoor seating area. Suggested scales for the plan are 1:1250 or 1:500. If it's not to scale all measurements must be clearly shown
  • an elevation plan of barriers and enclosure at scale 1:50. If not to scale all measurements must be clearly shown
  • a copy of the business' public liability insurance
  • copies of licences and permissions obtained for the premises, for example an alcohol licence or advertising permission. This must be in the name of the person who's applying for this licence
  • a risk assessment

We cannot process your application until we've received the required documents.
