Types of placement
We offer 4 typical types of Shared Lives placements:
Long term placements
These provide a unique alternative to supported and sheltered housing by living as part of an ordinary family within the community. They offer individuals their own bedroom and other shared facilities within the carer’s household.
Short breaks, including emergency placements
These provide a valuable alternative for people who require a short break away from their family. It can be used when an individual's family need respite care. For example, in cases of sickness and hospitalisation.
A short break can range from one night up to a period of several weeks.
Day support for up to 6 hours
This can be provided in a carer's own home, where activities can take place, as well as out in the local community.
Holidays
Holidays allow individuals and carers to enjoy a change of scenery, either in the UK or abroad. We match a group of up to 4 individuals with 2 Shared Lives carers, and give them a choice over their destination. It's a great way for new or existing friendships to develop, and a wonderful chance for everyone to sample different cultures.
