Support offered to carers

Shared Lives carers don't go it alone.

First of all, you'll have a named Shared Lives worker who is responsible for supporting you throughout the placement.

This person will:

  • visit you at least every 12 weeks
  • make sure you have the skills and knowledge to meet the changing needs of the person placed with you
  • offer learning and training when you need it
  • review the placement at least annually, or whenever there are significant changes in the your circumstances or those of the individual
  • support you to have regular breaks from your caring role
  • be on hand to support you with any issues or questions you have

Additional support includes:

  • bi-monthly carers' meetings
  • support from other Shared Lives carers
  • carer-organised social events
  • support through membership of Shared Lives Plus
