Section 31
Overview
Section 31 of the Highways Act 1980 requires the council to keep a public register of deposits and declarations lodged under s31(6) of that act.
These deposits and declaration enable landowners to formally acknowledge public rights of way across their land. By doing this, they create a presumption that they have no intention to dedicate any further routes across their land.
As of 1 October 2013, deposits and declarations lodged after this date are valid for 20 years.
How we use your data
We primarily use your data to modify the Definitive Map and Statement of Public Rights of Way, and to deal with other public rights of way matters. This may then be shared with internal departments (for example, Legal, Highways), and external parties such as the Planning Inspectorate, landowners, or other interested parties, in accordance with our organisational privacy notice. We never sell your data to third parties or use it to market to you without your consent.
