Overview

The Stockport Character and Urban Density (SCUD) study is part of the research that will help us put together our Local Plan for Stockport.

About the Local Plan

Getting the right homes in the right places is an important part of delivering our priorities set out in the One Stockport Borough Plan and the One Stockport: One Future plan.

To help us with this, we’re preparing a new Local Plan for the borough. The Local Plan will help us make sure we have the right homes, infrastructure and facilities in the right places.

Importantly, the Local Plan will give us guidelines to help us decide when planning permission should, or should not, be granted to development proposals.

About the SCUD study

This study looks at different areas across the borough, focusing on:

  • character: the feel and style of the area
  • density: the number of homes within the area

This study analyses the character of different areas across the borough to understand where increased densities and taller buildings could be accommodated. It provides evidence that the Local Plan's proposed approach to the density and design of residential development is justified.

This approach is consistent with the National Planning Policy Framework.

There are 14 reports in total. The main report gives more details about the purpose, scope and methods used for the study. The remaining 13 reports analyse each area and give recommendations for future development.
