Overview
We're working with schools across Stockport to introduce School Streets. The scheme will encourage more active journeys on the school run and increase daily activity levels for pupils.
Reducing vehicles on the road
A School Street creates a pedestrian and cycling zone. This zone supports active travel and cleaner air by reducing the number of vehicles moving in the area. This creates a safer and more pleasant start and end to the day for everyone in and around school communities.
School Streets are timed access restrictions to the street outside a school to motor vehicles, usually during drop-off and pick-up times during term time only. Closure points are in place using cones and road closed signage with a trained volunteer marshal covering closures at all times.
