Roadworks, closures and diversions

5. M60 Junction 1 (Hollywood Way)

As part of our Town Centre Access Plan project we are improving traffic flow on the M60 Junction 1 by widening Hollywood Way, creating a new lane on the approach to the motorway junction. The scheme also includes improved pedestrian and cycle facilities on Wood Street and Yew Street and the provision of new lighting and landscaping.

View the Scheme 502 drawing (PDF 695Kb) for detailed information.

The works are being carried out in phases and are expected to be completed autumn 2018.

Update September 2018

The first of two key phases of works was successfully completed earlier this year. This involved the construction of a retaining wall which has allowed us to progress with the widening of Hollywood Way. Since June 2018, the second phase of works including the highway widening itself has been ongoing with significant overnight working to minimise disruption.

Works that can be carried out safely without the need for lane closures on Hollywood Way and/or the roundabout will be undertaken Monday to Friday from 7am and 5pm.

The lane closure on Yew Street and footpath closures are still needed to maintain the safety of workers and the general public.

As part of the works to provide new pedestrian and cycle facilities and improve the lighting and landscaping, the new toucan (pedestrian and cyclist) crossing on Yew Street is now working and new lighting has been installed on the pedestrian / cyclist diversion route alongside the River Mersey.

Visit our Town Centre Access Plan (TCAP) page for information about current traffic management at the junction and across the town centre.
