Roadworks, closures and diversions

5. Knightsbridge and Great Portwood Street

As part of our Town Centre Access Plan project we are providing improved pedestrian crossings, new toucan (pedestrian and cycle) crossings, new widened pedestrian and cycle paths, and improved vehicle capacity along Knightsbridge on the approach to the Great Portwood Street junction.

The works will also enhance the public realm by providing planting and improved signage.

Phase 1 of the works will focus on the north east side of Knightsbridge and Great Portwood Street, with initial activities including site clearance and setting up the site compound. This phase is scheduled to commence on Monday 29th January 2018 for approximately 12 weeks.

To ensure the works are carried out safely and efficiently, the footway on the north side of Knightsbridge between Howard Street and Great Portwood Street will be closed for the duration of the Phase 1 works. Access for pedestrians along Knightsbridge will be via the south footway and pedestrian diversion signs will be displayed.

In addition, Knightsbridge Car Park will be closed for the duration of the works as the area will be used for the contractor’s compound ahead of car park improvement works being carried out. Alternative parking for the duration of the works is available at the Newbridge Lane and Churchgate car parks or at the Peel Centre. Additional dedicated disabled parking will be available on Bridgefield Street from early February.

The Knightsbridge project is planned to be completed in Autumn 2018 and further updates will be provided as the works progress.
