10. Hempshaw Lane, Offerton to Stockport
Work continues to create a new walking and cycling route between Offerton and Stockport town centre that avoids busy roads. One element of the scheme includes the development of a new toucan, pedestrian and cyclist, crossing on Hempshaw Lane at the entrance to St. Thomas Recreation Ground.
You can find more information about cycling and walking in Stockport on our cycling and walking in Stockport pages.
Hempshaw Lane crossing construction
Following completion of advanced utility works in autumn, the main work to install the crossing is taking place week staring 10 January 2022 for approximately 11 weeks. Traffic management will be required to make sure the works can be carried out safely and efficiently.
This will include:
- temporary footpath closures. Signs will be displayed for pedestrians to use alternative routes
- temporary traffic lights
- layby closures in sections alongside St. Thomas Rec, with associated signage clearly displayed. The layby will be opened for use as much as possible
A road closure will be needed to enable resurfacing works between Brundrett Street and Maitland Street, this is provisionally planned for March 2022. Access to properties within area of the closure will be maintained as much as possible. Please be aware that there may be a short delay while the contractor makes the area safe for public access. More information about these works will be provided on this page in advance.
All works will mainly take place during the quieter periods of Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm, with weekend and evening working only if required. During the construction period the contractors working on behalf of the council will make every attempt to minimise noise and disruption at all times.
The impact of the traffic management will be under continual review, and the traffic management requirements may be subject to change by unforeseen circumstances on site. Up-to-date information will be provided on this page.
