Dialstone Lane
We're delivering a package of highway works on Dialstone Lane near the A6 to support travel by sustainable modes, in particular walking, cycling and public transport. This includes improved accessibility for pedestrians and enhanced bus stop facilities.
The following works are planned along Dialstone Lane from January 2026:
- amendment of the line markings to extend the length of the left turn lane onto Buxton Road (A6)
- upgrading of the existing bus stops between Hurdsfield Road and Buxton Road, including a new buildout at the southbound stop
- new footway buildouts at the Hurdsfield Road junction to improve crossing facilities, by shortening the crossing distance and slowing the speed of turning vehicles
- provision of continuous footways across the vehicles accesses to the private parking areas to enhance accessibility for pedestrians.
- the introduction of new TROs to improve safety and reduce congestion
The works are planned to start the week beginning 19 January and will take approximately 6 weeks to complete. They'll be delivered in localised phases, planned and co-ordinated to manage disruption as much as possible. Traffic management will be used to ensure the work can be carried out safely and efficiently whilst maintaining 2 way traffic and pedestrian access. The affected bus stops will also be temporarily closed whilst they are being upgraded. Please see the bus stops for information about services.
A secure site compound and welfare facilities will be located in the grassed area on the east side of Dialstone Lane, close to the A6. These facilities will be used sensitively with respect to residents and removed as soon as possible.
An overnight closure of Dialstone Lane is planned towards the end of the construction phase to allow removal and installation of new line marking. Diversion routes will be clearly signed and access to properties will be maintained at all times. A further update regarding dates for this work will be provided nearer the time.
Thank you in advance for your patience and co-operation with our teams on site, who will be seeking to minimise disruption in the area. The works will predominantly take place during the daytime, Monday to Friday, with evening and weekend working only if required.
