Castle Hill, Bredbury

Works are taking place on Castle Hill and Ashton Road, Development Control Planning approval reference DC/083927. The works are scheduled to be carried out from the week starting 16 March 2026 for approximately 11 weeks.

The works will include the following:

  • widening of Castle Hill between Ashton Road and Far Cromwell Road to 6.75 metres in width
  • provision of a 3.55 metres shared use pedestrian and cycle path along Castle Hill between Ashton Road and Far Cromwell Road
  • construction of a bellmouth access to serve the site, designed to prevent left-turning vehicle movements out of the site, with associated pedestrian and cycle crossing point
  • provision of a Gateway Feature on Castle Hill to the north of the site access
  • provision of Quiet Lane signage on the northern section of Castle Hill, between the site access and the northern junction with Ashton Road
  • amendments to/widening of the junction of Castle Hill with Ashton Road
  • amendments to the Allied Bakery access, including the provision of a refuge island
  • provision of a 3 metres wide (with localised narrowing) shared use pedestrian and cycle path along Ashton Road between Castle Hill and Far Cromwell Road
  • provision of an uncontrolled crossing. with refuge, on Ashton Road in the vicinity of the Castle Hill junction with associated link paths
  • provision of a 3m wide shared use pedestrian and cycle path along Ashton Road between the crossing point from Castle Hill and Bredbury Parkway, northern junction

Traffic management will be required to enable the works to be completed safely and efficiently. This includes the use of temporary traffic lights when required, carriageway incursion on Ashton Road and Road closure of Castle Hill.

The works will generally be carried out between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday with some evening and weekend working as required.
