Greek Street bridge replacement

From 31 March, Greek Street roundabout will be closed to traffic until Spring 2026. This is during works by Network Rail to replace their bridge over the West Coast Main Line.

We're working closely with Network Rail, their contractors and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) to review and manage the impact of the work on our residents and businesses.

Greek Street, Mercian Way and surrounding roads will be closed with diversions in place for motorists and buses. We expect these routes to be busier than normal so please plan your journey in advance, allow extra time and consider leaving the car at home if you can. Local vehicle access will be maintained up to the roundabout, and diverted pedestrian and cycle routes will still be signed near to the roundabout.

You can find out more about the Greek Street bridge replacement project on Network Rail's project webpage. This includes diversion maps for motorists, buses, pedestrians and cyclists.

You can also get help planning your journey on the TfGM Bee Network website.

Over the Easter bank holiday weekend and for a few weeks in August, there will be changes to train services which run to and through Stockport. Advanced booking is advised but is only possible 12 weeks prior to the journey. You can find details on the National Rail Journey Planner.
