Greek Street bridge replacement
A6 and Longshut Lane West
From 31 March Greek Street roundabout will be closed to traffic until Spring 2026. This is during works by Network Rail to replace their bridge over the West Coast Main Line.
We're working closely with Network Rail, their contractors and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) to review and manage the impact of the work on our residents and businesses.
Find out about the Greek Street bridge replacement project on Network Rail's project webpage.
The diversion routes will be signed, including Longshut Lane West and will be used by diverted buses. Following assessments and trials, buses be exempted from the weight restriction on Booth Street while the roundabout is closed.
To help with the diversion, we'll be making some physical changes to the A6 and Longshut Lane junction to make turning easier. There will also be double yellow lines along Longshut Lane West to ease congestion.
The work will take place from from Monday 17 March for about 2 weeks, and we'll need to close lanes on the A6 between 9am to 3pm. Some pavements will also be closed and pedestrians will be diverted diverted locally with signage.
A camera is being installed at the junction for live monitoring and timing changes by TfGM’s Urban Traffic Control team, especially during the roundabout closure.
