Research Governance Framework
Research Governance Framework is soon to be replaced by UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research.
In 2001, the Department of Health published the Research Governance Framework for health and social care.
The Research Governance Framework (RGF) applies to all council adult social care departments and is a way of assuring the quality of research they carry out, and that the rights of those involved can be protected.
In December 2015, the the Health Research Authority (HRA) and the devolved administrations started to develop a new UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research. You can read more about the new policy framework by visiting the NHS Health Research Authority website.
This new policy framework aims to help make the UK an even better place to do research. It is aimed at all those responsible for health and social care research in the UK. When finalised, it will replace the current research governance frameworks published by each of the UK health departments.
The UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research was issued for public consultation between 18 December 2015 and 24 March 2016. View a copy of the consultation version on the NHS Health Research Authority website. The new framework is expected to be published in late 2016.
If you are planning to do research in Stockport that involves the collection or use information about staff or vulnerable service users, their relatives, carers or friends you may need RGF approval. This particularly applies to external researchers. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org in adult social care, or email@example.com in children’s social care if you need more information.
