Regeneration and housing development

3. Brinnington regeneration plan

Progress on the Brinnington Regeneration Plan is well underway. Countryside are building 281 two, three and four-bedroom houses at various sites across the area.

A sales cabin is on the site and many houses have been already reserved, with daily interest building up.

To support local residents who wish to save for a deposit for one of the new homes, the Council, Stockport Credit Union and Countryside have developed a bespoke savings scheme with significant financial benefits. It includes developer contributions of up to 2.5% of the value of the new home.

Details on the Brinnington Savings scheme are available from the Credit Union or Countryside.

The construction of the new £6 million sports and leisure facilities, which will replace the outdated Lapwing Centre, is also at full speed. The centre is expected to open early 2018.

The centre will include facilities for badminton, five-a-side football, basketball and a range of other sports and activities.

The centre will also feature;

  • a state of the art dance and aerobic studio
  • a 40-station fitness suite
  • a new home for Brinnington Boxing Club

There will also be a community room for;

  • events
  • classes and meetings
  • a crèche

There will also be additional car parking, new changing facilities and a new 3G football pitch. A new bowling green will be located next to Brinnington Health Centre.

Willmott Dixon is the contractor responsible for building the project. It will be overseen by Carillion on behalf of the council.
