Site inspections guarantee that the work taking place is in compliance with building regulations.

It is a legal requirement to notify the council at the following stages:

On commencement

You cannot start building work until:

  • you've given the local authority notice of your intention to carry out work; and
  • at least 2 days have passed since the end of the day on which the notice was given to inspect that the work meets building regulation standards. If you do not, you might have to correct the work you have done.

On completion

You'll need to notify the local authority when building work is complete no more than 5 days after completion.

On occupation

Where a building has been erected to which the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (a) applies or will apply after the completion of the work and that building is to be occupied before completion, you will need to give the local authority at least 5 days notice before the building or any part of it is occupied.
