Explore the magical connection between storytelling and nature in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge: Story Garden – Adventures in Nature and the Great Outdoors.

Embark on a journey by reading 6 books over the summer, collecting stickers and rewards that celebrate the beauty of nature. Earn your certificate and medal by exploring the wonders of reading. It’s all free, so make sure you pick up your collector folder from your local library.

How to take part

Find out how children aged 4 to 11 can join the Summer Reading Challenge and enjoy reading for pleasure over the summer.

Signing up to the challenge is free. You can join in your local library by speaking to a member of staff or online. Find our opening times on the library directory.

Borrow and read 6 books, then visit the library to share your reading. Read anything you like over the summer to earn prizes, as well as a certificate and medal when completing the challenge.

The challenge starts from Saturday 5 July, and runs until Saturday 6 September.

What books you can read

You can read anything you like! The point is to enjoy yourself while you do. Read library books or your own books. Fiction or fact, poetry and joke books, graphic novels, picture books, magazines or cookbooks. Want to read a newspaper? That counts too!

Audiobooks and eBooks also count! Check out our free digital book collection on BorrowBox.

We have a range of dyslexia friendly children’s books in Stockport Libraries. Ask staff for assistance. We also recommend eBooks as you can change the font, text size and background colour to suit your specific needs.
