Public health

1. Overview

Public Health responsibilities transferred from the NHS to Stockport Council in 2013. The service, under the Director of Public Health Dr Stephen Watkins, works across the Council and with key strategic partners to integrate the health and wellbeing agenda into the Council's key priorities.

Public Health has a wide remit and is responsible for delivering and / or commissioning a broad range of support and services connected to health and wellbeing. This includes helping people make a lifestyle change such as stopping smoking, losing some weight, eating more healthily, getting more active, cutting down on alcohol or a bit of everything.

These services are part of the Healthy Stockport family of services, and can be accessed by contacting START (Stockport Triage, Assessment and Referral Team).
