Marple

Footpath 167

We're making an order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991.

This is to temporarily close footpath 167 Marple, where it passes under the Peak Forest Canal at Peeres Road. Traffic signs to that effect will be in place on or near the footpath.

This order is necessary to allow for works on the canal and viaduct to take place.

We expect that the works will last for a maximum of 6 months.

The following diversions will be provided:

  • north along Turf Lea, then east on footpath 174, then north again on the towpath to footpath 165 which is followed to Strines Road. Then south on Strines Road to Peeres Road
  • south along Turf Lea onto footpath 169, then onto footpaths into Cheshire East (Disley footpaths 18, 64, 66 and 10) to Strines Road, then north to Peeres Road

This order is to come into operation on 27 November 2025 and will have effect for 6 months, unless works are finished earlier.

Footpath 215

We're making an order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991.

We'll temporarily close footpath 215 (Peak Forest Canal Towpath), for its complete length between the swing bridge carrying footpath 174 and the borough boundary. Traffic signs to that effect will be in place on or near the footpath.

This order is necessary to allow the Canals and Rivers Trust to complete necessary
works on the canal.

A diversion will be provided from the swing bridge following footpath 174 to
Turf Lea Road, then south on Turf Lea Road and continuing onto footpath 169, which becomes Cheshire footpath 18 then 64 leading back to the towpath at Little Woodend Bridge.

This order will come into operation on 5 October 2025 and will have effect for 6
months
, unless works are finished earlier.

The reference number for the order is JO/11128004.

Footpath 62

We've made an order under section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991.

We'll temporarily close footpath 62 Marple for 600 metres between the entrance to Dale Farm and Connect 2 Bridge at Chadkirk. Traffic signs to that effect are in place on or near the public footpath.

This order is necessary as the footpath is a danger to the public due to a riverbank collapse.

We expect that the works will last for a maximum of 6 months.

Alternative routes will provided via:

  • public footpath 62 Marple southwards, until it meets public footpath 64 Marple generally eastwards, until it meets Marple Hall Drive and continuing south eastwards to Mandalay Gardens continuing to Flagg Wood Avenue, then north eastwards to Walton Drive continuing south eastwards to Marsland Road, and then north before turning eastwards to meet Kingsbridge Close continuing to Dale Lane

This Order is to come into operation on 4 July 2025 and will have effect for 6 months. If all necessary works are completed within a shorter period, this order shall cease to have effect at the end of that shorter period.

The reference number for this order is JO/9162772.
