Cheadle and Gatley
Footpaths 96, 97A and 97
We're making an order under Section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991.
We'll temporarily close:
- part of Footpath 96
- all of Footpath 97A
- all of Footpath 97
Traffic signs to that effect will be in place on or near the footpaths.
This order is necessary to allow for works to take place for Scheme 12A of the A34 Major Roads Network Improvement Plan.
A diversion will be provided via Stanley Road (B5094), St James’ Way, the path by St James’ RC High School, Rushside Road, Footpath 104 Cheadle and Gatley, and the Network Rail Bridge over the railway on the A34.
This order will come into operation on 2 February 2026 and will have effect for 6 months, unless work finishes sooner.

Footpath 96
We propose making an order under Section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991.
The order will temporarily close Footpath 96 Cheadle and Gatley, Heald Green, from its junction with Wilmslow Road, to a point approximately 350 metres east, where the diverted route will rejoin the original line, whilst traffic signs to that effect are in place on or near the said footpath.
This order is necessary for public safety during housing development works.
Diversion route:
- from its junction with Wilmslow Road, in a southeasterly direction then easterly, then northerly to a point approximately 350 metres east, where the diverted route will rejoin the original line
This route will follow the boundary of the works enclosure and will be signed.
This order will come into operation on 23 January 2026 and will have effect for 6 months, unless work finishes sooner.

Footpath 105
We're making an order under Section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991.
We'll temporarily close Footpath 105, Cheadle and Gatley, from Heathbank Road to the eastern side of the railway bridge. Traffic signs to that effect will be in place on or near the footpath.
This order is necessary to allow works to replace the railway bridge to take place.
Alternative routes will be provided via:
- north east for 50 metres along Heathbank Road 130 to Footpath 96, Cheadle and Gatley
- south west along the footpath for 350 metres, south east across the railway, and then north west for 320 metres to the other end of the closed section
This order is to come into operation on 15 January 2026 and will have effect for 6 months. If all necessary works are completed within a shorter period, this order shall cease to have effect at the end of that shorter period.

Bridleway 16 and Bridleway 118
We're making an order under Section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991.
We'll temporarily close:
- the full length of Bridleway 16 Cheadle and Gatley, between Hall Moss Lane and Highfield Parkway
- the full length of Bridleway 118 Cheadle and Gatley, between Hall Moss Lane and Bridleway 16 CG
Traffic signs to that effect will be in place on or near the bridleways.
This order is necessary to allow for works on the junctions on the bridleways to take
place.
A diversion will be provided via Hall Moss Lane, Moor Lane, Jenny Lane and Woodford Road. Pedestrians may use an alternative via Footpath 13 Hazel Grove and Bramhall, Footpath 10 Cheadle and Gatley, Footpath 26 Cheadle and Gatley, and Moss Lane.
This order is to come into operation on 5 January 2026 and will have effect for 6 months, unless work finishes sooner.

Bridleway 134, Bridleway 135 and Footpath 76
We're making an order under Section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991.
We'll temporarily close Bridleway 134 Cheadle and Gatley, Bridleway 135 Cheadle and Gatley and Footpath 76 from their access points at Ladybridge Road, Ramillies Avenue and Blenheim Road. Traffic signs to that effect will be in place on or near the footpath.
This order is necessary to allow construction works of the ATF4 Ladybrook Valley Scheme.
Alternative routes will be provided via:
- approaching from the south side use either Footpath 66 Cheadle and Gatley or Footpath 76 Cheadle and Gatley
- approaching from the north side either use Footpath 66 Cheadle and Gatley or Tenement Lane/Footpath 74 Cheadle and Gatley onto Footpath 51 Cheadle and Gatley
This order is to come into operation on 30 December 2025 and will have effect for 6 months, unless work finishes sooner.
