Bredbury and Romiley

Footpath 6

We're making an order under Section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991.

We'll temporarily close part of footpath 6 from Compstall Road for 60 metres in a north-easterly direction to the bottom of the slope. Traffic signs to that effect will be in place on or near the footpath.

This order is necessary to allow work to take place due to flood damage on the steps.

We expect that the work will last for a maximum of 6 months.

Alternative routes will be from the closure point in a south-easterly direction to St Paul's Church, Compstall.

This order will come into operation on 25 January 2026, and will have effect for 6 months, unless works are finished earlier.

Footpath 5 BR

We're making an order under Section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other enabling powers.

We'll temporarily close footpath 5 Bredbury and Romiley for its complete length between School Lane and footpath 6 Bredbury and Romiley.

Traffic signs to that effect will be in place on or near the footpath.

This order is necessary to ensure public safety due to the collapsed footpath.

This order will come into operation on 23 January 2026 and have effect for 6 months, unless works finish sooner or for a further period as the Secretary of State for Transport approves.

It may be cited as The Metropolitan Borough Council of Stockport (Footpath 5, Bredbury and Romiley)(Temporary Closure) Order 2026.

Footpath 10(a)

We're making an order under Section 14(2)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991.

We'll temporarily close Footpath 10(a) Bredbury and Romiley to ensure public safety due to a damaged bridge.

A diversion will be provided via Bridleway 11BR, Pinfold Lane, Cowlishaw Road and Mellor Road. Traffic signs will be in effect on or near the closure.

This order will come into operation on 16 January 2026, and will have effect for 21 days, unless works are finished earlier.

Footpath 59 Clapgate

We’re making an order under Section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991.

We’ll temporarily close Footpath 59, from the eastern Junction with Footpath 60 BR, up to the Junction with Bridleway 56 BR. Traffic signs are in place on or near the footpath and bridleway.

Footpath diversion

Access will be available through Footpath 60 BR, onward to Footpath 61 BR and further onto Bridleway 56 BR.

Bridleway diversion

Access will be available from the junction of Footpath 59 BR, along Bridleway 56 BR and further onwards onto Restricted Byway 82 BR.

This order will come into operation on 13 November 2025, and will have effect for 6 months, unless works are finished earlier.
