Occupied properties

Apply for a Council Tax reduction if your property is:

  • occupied entirely by persons with a severe learning disability, mental illness or form of dementia who would otherwise have to pay Council Tax
  • occupied entirely by full time students

You may also be able to get a Council Tax reduction if your property:

  • is occupied entirely by persons under the age of 18
  • is occupied by at least one foreign diplomat or specified member of an international organisation
  • has an annexe which is occupied by a dependant relative of the person who is resident in the main property. A relative is dependant if he or she is aged 65 or over, severally mentally impaired, or is substantially or permanently disabled
  • is occupied by visiting service personnel who are not British citizens or normally resident in the UK
  • is occupied and owned by the Secretary of State for Defence
  • is a halls of residence provided for the accommodation of students
  • has an annexe which is being used as part of the main home
