Delivering our Council Plan

To achieve our ambitions, it's vital that we have the right support in place.

Our workforce

Our colleagues’ passion, resilience and dedication to local people and places is central to our ability to deliver excellent services for residents, as well as our ability to innovate and improve. It's also what makes Stockport Council an amazing place to work, grow and thrive.

Our One Team People Plan is our workforce strategy and showcases the way we work in Stockport Council as a value driven organisation. It has 5 pillars that include measures to embed our values, think innovatively about recruitment, and become a more inclusive organisation.

Working with others

We could not do the work we do without working closely with our partners and always taking a collaborative approach. In Stockport, we have a clear shared vision and strong relationships with our partners, communities, and residents.

Delivering change and spending wisely

We take pride in our ability to make a difference to the people of Stockport, drive change and transformation whilst spending our money wisely. Every year we must deliver a budget that balances our spend with the income we receive.

We're shaping our budget within an uncertain, unstable, and complex environment. We continue to see increasing demand for services. This, combined with the rising cost of providing services, is adding further challenges in delivering a balanced budget.

Despite these challenges, we're an ambitious council, and are committed to making a difference to the residents and communities we serve.

Achieving a sustainable budget means that we can continue to make improvements across services and change the way we work through programmes such as the Neighbourhoods and Prevention programme. It also means that we're well-placed to attract external investment that has helped to regenerate our borough, grow the business base, and create jobs.

Radically Digital Stockport

In Stockport, we have an award-winning approach to digital and data. We launched our Radically Digital Strategy in 2022 to make the most of the possibilities that digital brings.

Digital can help us to change the way we work and the way we engage with people. It opens up new opportunities for jobs and our local economy. It's essential in providing better customer service more efficiently.

Our Digital Strategy is set out into 3 key pillars:

  • Digital Communities
  • Digital Place
  • Digital Council
