Young Inspectors, summer 2025

The Young Inspectors have been visiting HAF projects during the summer holidays to offer feedback on how they could be more inclusive.

Two young women: one wearing a black top and pinstripe trousers while standing in front of a brick wall, the other wearing black top and blur jeans while holding a Young Inspectors certificate.

Over the summer, 9 young people with SEND took part in a unique training programme to become Young Inspectors.

The group has been learning how to assess and improve local Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) projects.

Their training covered key topics such as:

  • teamwork and communication
  • accessibility and inclusion
  • diversity and fairness
  • making balanced and constructive judgments

Armed with their new skills, the Young Inspectors have been visiting HAF projects during the summer holidays to observe how they run and offer feedback on how they could be more inclusive. They’ve even developed their own set of inspection questions to guide their evaluations and help shape a report with recommendations later this year.

As a reward for their hard work, each participant received a certificate and a £50 voucher after completing their training and first inspection.

Jessica, Young Inspector

I think it is a good opportunity to make youth projects more accessible and safe for young people.

Haris, Young Inspector

I liked visiting the project and doing dancing.

This project is a great example of how listening to young people, especially those with lived experience, can lead to meaningful change. Stockport’s Young Inspectors are not just learning new skills, they’re helping to build a more inclusive future for everyone.
