I work at Stockport Inclusion Service, as a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) Lead.

Having worked as a primary class teacher, SENCO and deputy head teacher, my passion for working in the world of SEN brought me to the Inclusion Service.

The Inclusion Service works to support and enable schools to enhance the inclusion of children with special educational needs (SEN). Our focus is to help schools further develop and improve their offer of support, sometimes called provision, so they can ensure that all children and young people can participate fully within a positive learning environment.

My role along with my colleague, Sara Whalley, is to support SENCOs across Stockport schools. The job of being a SENCO is a fabulous one, but is also challenging and ever changing.

Our role involves training and offering support and advice, so that all SENCOs feel confident in carrying out their duties and improving their school's provision for children with SEN.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child's progress, or the provision that is being offered to them, it is important to arrange to meet with your child's class or form teacher. Following this meeting, you may also want to meet with the school's SENCO. Their name and contact details can be found on the school's website, within the section about SEN, often called the SEN Information Report. This is also where you can find out more about how the school supports children with additional needs and the kind of provision they put in place.
