Simon's story
Specialist foster caring
Simon has worked with young people who have complex behaviours and believes that the rewards of fostering are "priceless".
"Last year I was working in a residential home with young people with challenging behavioural and emotional issues", says Simon. "I enjoyed my job but I was ready for a new challenge and then I have found one!
"This role has given me the opportunity to work from home. I also offer young people, who have not had the best start in life, the support and guidance they need.
"Many of these young people have had significant difficulties. They need specialist support to help them to deal with their issues and move forward in their lives.
"The role, despite being demanding, is very rewarding and changes daily, which can be exciting.
"I was supported by a social worker throughout the assessment process to become an approved specialist foster carer. This took around six months.
"I have received regular intensive support through a comprehensive training program, monthly group meetings and regular support from my supervising social worker and the fostering outreach service.
"Knowing that I have contributed to the development of young people and sharing positive experiences and milestones in their lives is priceless."
