Sapphire’s story

Sapphire 'Saffi' Oxborough Sharp is the embodiment of perseverance, dedication, and passion for artistic swimming.

Saffi has Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, which affects the muscles in her feet, ankles, and legs. When Saffi first joined the team, there were uncertainties about whether she could meet the demanding figure grades required to progress in synchro or attain the flexibility needed for splits and advanced routines.

However, Saffi refused to let these obstacles define her journey. Through relentless effort, commitment and hard work, she has defied expectations. She has not only reached Figure Grade 5 in both figures and routines but has also earned her place at the National level with Stockport Metro Synchro Club.

Sara Dixon, Head Coach, said: “Despite facing significant challenges, Saffi’s progress is nothing short of inspiring. Saffi has shown incredible resilience and determination to achieve her dreams. She approaches each training session with a positive attitude, a focused mindset, and an unwavering belief that she can achieve what she sets her mind to. She’s a pleasure to coach, and it’s clear that her hard work and determination are contagious.”

Saffi has progressed to volunteer coach and shares her experiences and wisdom with the younger swimmers at the club. She continues to train for the National Championship competitions. Her story proves that with passion and determination, you can reach your goals and even inspire the next generation.
