Linda's story

Beyond the physical benefits, it’s had an enormous impact on my mental health.

Over 8 years ago, while walking down St Petersgate, I happened to notice a ladies-only gym – Stockport Health and Fitness Centre. The idea of a space dedicated solely to women immediately appealed to me, especially since I had been feeling uncomfortable and out of place at the mixed gym I was attending at the time.

I decided to join, and I’ve never regretted that decision. Since becoming a member, I’ve been attending regularly, and it has made a world of difference. My physical fitness has improved significantly – I’ve even participated in a few charity walks and runs.

Beyond the physical benefits, it’s had an enormous impact on my mental health. As someone who experiences high anxiety from time to time, I’ve gained more confidence in social situations, at work, and in life overall. I now find it much easier to manage my day-to-day tasks, and after every workout, I always feel so chilled out.

What I look forward to most is not only the workout itself, but also the chance to socialise with the other members. The friendly atmosphere at the club has been such a positive influence on me.
